Practical tips for car drivers
The national road traffic rules are similar to those in other European countries - for people over 18 years old with the internationally recognized license it is possible to drive. For driving on motorways and highways the speed limit is a maximum of 130 km/h, on normal roads the speed limit is 90 km/h, in municipalities the maximum speed limit is 50 km/h. Zero tolerance of alcohol is applied and an obligation to have the lighting of vehicles on all year round. Cars in our region can benefit from motorways and highways under construction as they are free of charge, but soon they will be paid for even by cars by using a toll sticker. Toll stickers can be bought at all petrol stations and post offices for a period of 1 week, 1 month and 1 year. Since 2007 the toll charge is on selected roads for vehicles over 12 tonnes.
Car Parks are marked by a blue sign with white letter P. Even though a car park is paid it might not be guarded, the operator is not responsible for the contents of the vehicle - so do not leave any documents, money or valuables visible inside your car.
